    Quality Policy

Contributed by: Njoku Chijioke (QA/QC Department, Port-Harcourt)

It is simply defined as top Management expression of her intentions, directions and aims of its products and processes. From the above definition, you can pick out three main points which are as follows:
    1. 1. Intentions
    2. 2. Directions
    3. 3. Aims

    INTENTIONS:
Makon’s Quality policy for 2014 1st and 2nd paragraph, for example, clearly state Management’s intensions towards providing quality services to our valued clients in all areas of Engineering,Procurement,ProjectManagement,Const-ruction,Installation,Commissioning,Operation and Maintenance of facilities. Also, her commitment to adopting the tenets of ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems standards such that every staff has the responsibility for sustaining it are clearly stated.
These clear intentions mean that as personnel working for the company we have a responsibility to render our services in an optimized way by consistently providing products and services that meet and exceed the requirements and expectations of our customers. We should actively pursue ever improving quality through programs that enable each employee to do their job right the first time and every time.
    DIRECTIONS AND AIMS:
Makon’s Quality policy which is set at corporate level and cascade as objectives at departmental levels. These are the DIRECTIONS by which the management achieves the AIMS of the quality policy, a commitment to meeting them as well as its continuous improvement. It should provide an outline for creating, stating, and measuring the performance of the quality objectives.
    Summary:
We are encouraged irrespective of our job functions to have quality service as our watch-word as documented quality policy can be seen only in the awareness and actions of people and not just in documents. Therefore:
    1. 1. All staff should read to understand our quality policy.
    2. 2. Departments should ensure that they structure their departmental objectives in line with the quality policy.
    3. 3. Quality objectives should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound).
