    What’s in store for 2015-16

I am very excited to announce the reconstitution of the Strategic Management Team (SMT) which held its first meeting on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 10:00 AM-12:00 PM.  The SMT is made up of all HODs and the purpose of the SMT is to implement an Operational Improvement Plan while acting as a liaison between the Board of Directors and Management team.  The Strategic Management Team will be instrumental in charting the direction of METS throughout the 2015-16 fiscal year.

A few of the topics discussed at our maiden 2014 meeting were:
    • Process Improvement.
    • Optimization of Operations
    • Effective Communication
    • Development of a Customer Service Survey for client feedback and continual improvement.

To achieve identified objectives, discussions were made and agreed on the following:
    • Establishment of a Business Management Policy (BMP).
    • Development of a Business Management Framework.
    • Review of existing Management Policies to best applicable standards.
    • Set SMART Targets/Goals for 2015
    • Develop 2015  METS Calendar for proper planning.

Management by Objectives, or MBO, is an administration strategy that uses the S.M.A.R.T. goals method–setting objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-based.

Management by Objectives, or MBO, is a concept expressed more than 50 years ago. This strategy for managing people, which focuses on managing teams based on their ability to complete individual and team goals.

Why does the MBO model work?
MBO works because it helps to align the individual efforts of broad teams around the organization’s collective objectives.

The MBO process starts with METS defining its objectives. The process of strategic planning, forecasting, goal setting, or visioning produces from its process a set of objectives that the organization should strive to achieve. From there, departments, their objectives, all of which align and support the organizational objectives. Individual goals are then established to support the departmental objectives.

    Primary steps
First, the management team must explain to employees what our plans are and why we’re doing it. The second step, setting up the actual S.M.A.R.T. objectives.

    Communicating the message
MBO is designed to improve operational management and maximize the effectiveness of the members of individual teams. The MBO process will be focused on helping team members understand the individual roles they play and how their jobs contribute to company success and focused on the bottom line and organizational values.

METS doesn’t want to fall into the called “Activity Trap” is one where we get so busy doing things that we forget to ask whether what we’re doing are the right things. This is an important concept for everyone in our organization to comprehend. Helping to explain how the activity trap happens and how MBO is designed to help avoid it will help our employees understand the goal of making the work that they do more effective.

Everyone knows that there is a natural resistance to change that occurs even when there is an understanding that the intent is objective and reasonable. In order to combat this natural resistance, consider making smaller (more tactical) objectives and measure them on a shorter basis than we normally might (quarterly or half a year instead of a typical one-year pattern.)

What are our SMART Goals for 2015

    What is SMART?
    Management by Objectives
Mobilize Change through Executive Leadership -Mobilization
    – Governance Processes

Each of the standard perspectives includes different elements of the overall strategy:

    Customer
    – the strategy for creating value and differentiation from the perspectives of the customer.
    Internal Business Process
    – the strategic priorities for various business processes, which create customer satisfaction.
